Former National Hockey League player Brian McDonald will be the guest speaker on Monday, Nov. 18, at the monthly meeting of the Athletic Club of the LowCountry.
The talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Buckwalter Parkway in Bluffton across from Publix. A social gathering with refreshments will get underway at 6:30.
McDonald, a Sun City resident, will share his playing experiences from a sport that began for him at 3 years old. McDonald, a center, was on the ice for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1968 NHL playoffs. His professional career wrapped up in 1977 after two seasons with the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA.
The November meeting will be the club's last meeting of the year. Election of officers for 2014 will be held prior to McDonald's talk.

Local Youth Sailors Finish Strong in Columbia SAYRA Regatta
Several S.C. Yacht Club opti sailors traveled to Columbia to compete in the 53rd annual Midlands SAYRA Regatta held Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 at the Columbia Sailing Club.
Matthew Monts placed second in the 11-12 opti division and ended in a three-way tie for fourth place overall for the entire opti fleet. Also in the 11-12 opti division, Savannah Dixon and Jimmy Thompson placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
William Tebrake finished third and Bradlee Anderson finished fourth in the novice opti group. From the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, Walter Gnann finished third in the laser radial class.
