The David M. Carmines Memorial Tennis Championship returns to Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center this weekend, but it's not the same old tournament, according to tournament director Jackie Reynecke.
According to Reynecke, the David M. Carmines Memorial Team Tennis Championships -- note the name change -- has switched formats this year from the traditional singles, doubles and mixed doubles in rated divisions to a format similar to World Team Tennis.
"As of now we have 18 teams registered with at least 148 individuals rostered," Reynecke said in an email. "Each team will play in round robin format against the other teams in their division. Teams are composed of at least two men and two women, but up to 10 players can be on a roster. A match is one set each of men's and women's doubles, one set of men's and women's singles followed by a set of mixed doubles. So a total of five sets makes a match."
Winners and finalists will be determined at the end of the weekend by games accumulated. Coaching, subbing and team/spectator cheering are all encouraged.
All entry fees from the tournament are being donated to the David M. Carmines Foundation, which supports cancer research.
