Jim Stubbs was even happier than he thought.
The Van der Meer Tennis tournament director thought the field of 101 players in this weekend's Seashore Vacations Adult Tennis Championships at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club was 20 percent bigger than last year.
After a closer look, Stubbs realized this year's number of entries represented an increase of closer to 100 percent over last year's field of 54.
"I'm more than pleased," Stubbs said.
The USTA-sanctioned event features men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles. Age divisions are from 50 to 80 with men's and women's 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 singles and 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 mixed combo doubles.
Play begins at 6 p.m. Thursday with matches continuing at 2 p.m. Friday.
The event is open and free to the public.
