Ad Ops Test
Each day, hundreds of workers board public buses and ride for hours to hospitality jobs on Hilton Head Island. Local employers have depended on bused workers for years. And the workers, from some of the state’s poorest counties where jobs are virtually non-existent, appreciate the opportunity even though the commutes eat up what little free time they have. During the week of July 24, three reporters rode the buses to and from Allendale — 2½ hours each way — to chronicle riders’ stories.
