Project Connect is a partnership between the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and local schools to help teachers get supplies or services.

WISHES GRANTED

• Hilton Head School for the Creative Arts fourth-grade teacher Babs Farkasovsky’s wish for a color printer/scanner and digital camera was granted by the John Duncan family of Hilton Head Island.

• Main Street Medical granted the following wishes at H.E. McCracken Middle School: Sixth-grade math teacher Molly Binder’s wish for dry-erase markers and brightly colored computer paper; reading teacher Jennifer Rudemyer’s wish for subscriptions to Scholastic Magazines, new novels for young adults, computer games and scrapbook materials; and eighth-grade math teacher Amanda Bray’s wish for 120 bags of Skittles, pencils, folders, decks of cards, sets of dice, sets of dominoes, multiplication flash cards, two dictionaries and two thesauruses.

Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence

Hilton Head Island Middle School

• Mikian Royer and Gail Jover, 6-8, ESOL sheltered social studies, math: Want to improve exterior of mobile classroom with approximately 30 feet of landscaping such as drought-resistant shrubs or flowers, edging such as bricks and possibly some topsoil.
• Gail Jover, 6-8, ESOL sheltered math, language lab: 15 12-by-12 individual white boards (for last set, teacher purchased large white board from hardware store, which cut it up into individual boards); dry-erase markers
• Kim Gartner, 8, Challenge Days at HHIMS 2008: Any funds to help pay for this program (cost $14,000). It services all 300 eighth-graders and is a bully intervention program performed by California nonprofit organization; money would help continue this program next year with rising eighth-graders. Bluffton High School

• Karen Wukovits, 10-12, English/Holocaust literature: Any speakers (Holocaust survivors) for Holocaust literature as well as any resources that could be used in the class, such as books, movies, etc. They also have started a local STAND chapter (student anti-genocide coalition) and need donations from local businesses to raffle off to raise money.
• Parris Larrain, 9-12, visual arts: 40 easels to display artwork in local businesses, such as banks, hospitals, shopping areas, etc.
• Heather Dagle, 9, algebra 2 honors: LCD projector
• Linnea Lee, 10-12, AP calculus AB, precalculus, algebra 1B: LCD projector to use with graphing calculators and PowerPoint presentations.
• Michelle Mostiler, 10-12, chemistry: Class set of graphing calculators
• Jessica Phillips, 12, teacher cadet: Video camera to record lesson plans for peer critique and other in-class activities.
• Lindsey Widener, 9-12, journalism: Digital camera for students have started their own school newspaper for the first time in Bluffton High School history.
