We read recently of an accident involving a motorcycle and an automobile. None of the occupants of the automobile were hurt; the only one hurt was the motorcycle rider. He was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
Isn't it a bit illogical for South Carolina to enforce seat-belt laws for passengers in automobiles weighing 3,000 or 4,000 pounds and to have no helmet requirement for motorcyclists?
This is not the only fatal or near-fatal motorcycle accident that has recently occurred in Beaufort County (without helmets). What a sad waste of young lives.
