It has become very clear to me that the Town of Hilton Head Island mayor and the Town Council of 2013 and 2014 do not really care one bit for the opinion of the long-standing people of this island. There is the non-sensical growth and development they hide at every meeting.
I carefully and regularly read the opinion page of the paper. It is to be commended for its openness in allowing residents to express their opposition to rezoning. I would guess it is an 8-to-1 preference among letter writers. The people's opinion is to severely curtail change of any kind as there is no room for it. Only so many sardines can fit in a can.
Nevertheless, council has amended long-standing zoning that prioritizes environmental stewardship. I assure you all that the Broad Creek is a delicate ecosystem with protected sea turtles, egrets, eagles and dolphins that are stressed, etc. And it is worth much more than graft.
