My wife took her car in for a 30,000-mile check. She waited for the work to be done which took less than three hours. The dealer charged $98 for parts and $350 for labor. This equates to over $116 per hour.
When I questioned the charges, I was told that this was the going rate at other dealers. My checking found that factory-guaranteed service was available and significantly cheaper at local and national chain repair shops, which will use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts if required.
My advice is to shop around before being broadsided by excessive labor rates.
