As the Town of Hilton Head Island mayoral race goes on, I have to laugh at the issues the candidates are debating. Here is my take on some more important issues.
One issue discussed by the candidates is the new Kroger at the Shelter Cove Towne Center. There are too many lights, some say. Well, those few of us who reside on the island born after the Civil War love the new center. That center is bringing jobs to the island. I do not know why it is such an issue since most of the locals are asleep before 8:30 p.m., when the lights come on.
Let's talk about the miles of beautiful bicycle trails. It's too bad you can only use them during daylight hours. No lights along the paths mean people can use them before or after work, but not everyone is retired.
Also, when you are in the left lane driving 38 mph and there is a line of traffic behind you, you should get over. But not the locals. They will yell at you to slow down while cars pass them on the right.
And please note that every traffic circle on the island is a yield. No circle has a sign reading, "Come to a complete stop causing a pileup behind you" sign. If there is no one in the circle coming your way, continue moving.
It's time for progress.
