I value reasoned and factual political disagreement, but a recent letter made my hair hurt.
President Obama's title at the University of Chicago Law School was senior lecturer. He was never a professor at Harvard, Yale or anywhere else.
Regarding the Republican-controlled "do-nothing" Congress of which the writer speaks, Congress is comprised of two houses -- a Republican-controlled House and a Democrat-controlled Senate. Here's an inconvenient fact: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, has more than 350 House-passed bills on his desk that he will not bring to the floor for a vote. Thus, Reid is the "do-nothing" Congress.
Obama is accused of acting "unconstitutionally" by Republicans. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that he did just that when he appointed three members to the National Labor Board while Congress was not in recess.
In the administration's own words, it has "rewritten an array of far-reaching rules under the Affordable Care Act" (Washington Post) including the delay of key requirements. These are acts subverting a law that the president signed.
And lastly, women's rights are advancing, not eroding. Suffrage in the form of the 19th Amendment was passed by a Republican-controlled House and Senate. Finally, no person, no group, no law and no court, left or right, has denied women access to free birth control or abortion. The "War on Women" is a charade.
