The air-conditioning units at the Hilton Head Airport have been kaput since June.
At the airport recently, I asked several staff people why it was still so hot there. I was told -- the persons with whom I spoke asked me not to mention their names -- four estimates to fix the air conditioners from four different firms took place in July. But at that time no firm had been asked to fix it because of the cost.
Though some sparse pockets of cool air exist, it remains so hot there that even the shadows sweat. EMS had to go there a few times to take care of some folks suffering from the heat. Fortunately, no one had to go to the hospital, this time around.
Those individuals responsible for fixing these units need to act now -- not in December. After all, this is Hilton Head Island, so residents and tourists alike who fly in and out of here should not be subjected to a hot, humid airport.
Never miss a local story.
