I've been ruminating about zealots on the political left. In an effort to improve their public image, they now prefer to be called progressives, not liberals. In this case, the term progressive is a misnomer. It implies moving forward. Conversely, today's progressives seek subservience of all to the ideology of centralized power in the hands of the elite. Using the term progressive is a case of twisting words to give palatable meaning to an unpalatable idea.
Progressives are intolerant of dissenting views. They approve of the mindset that bans conservative speakers from college campuses. They applaud the forced resignation of a CEO who opposes gay marriage. However, they tolerate using unlawful means to attain their ends. For example, they approve executive orders, unilaterally disregarding large chunks of legislation signed into law. Where are the progressive law school professors denouncing the arrogation of unitary executive power that they were so enraged about six years ago? The hypocrisy is disgusting.
Backed by a complicit media and zealous coterie of environmentalists, gays, unions, abortion-on-demand advocates, and secularists, they cheer when their leader, between vacations and fundraisers, shreds our Constitution.
Americans, get your heads out of the sand. Take back our country.
