I use the county garbage drop-off center on St. Helena Island (the one near Frogmore) at 7 a.m. on my way to work two to three times a week, every week.
According to whatever study was done, I am in the minority of users. However, that is the most convenient time for me.
If the center will no longer open before 9 a.m., I will either have to go home after work to pick up my garbage and return, making another 10-mile round trip, or keep my smelly garbage with me all day at work to drop off on the way home. I see a good many of the same vehicles there dropping off in the mornings, so I am not the only one.
Why not have alternate days with hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. the other days? Operating costs will be the same, and those of us who would otherwise have to waste precious fuel to make several other trips weekly won't be inconvenienced.
Never miss a local story.
