It would seem we have lost our way -- from the idiocy of our Congress to the insanity in Nigeria caused by the Boko Haram kidnappings to the Israel -Gaza conflict to Russia's takeover of part of Ukraine to the children crossing our southern border ... Yes, there is more, but you get the idea.
It seems we have forgotten the fundamental principles of optimism and trust this country was built upon.
It took a Canadian astronaut to remind me that we're going to be OK. In 2013, the International Space Station Commander Chris Hadfield, an amateur (though quite good) musician, did the first music video from space, performing an excellent cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity."
While that was totally cool, he followed it up with a song from space, accompanied on Earth by the Canadian group, Barenaked Ladies (who did "The Big Bang Theory" theme song) and a kids' group, The Wexford Geeks.
As a one-time professional and now amateur musician (and space freak), I was blown away when I saw the video they made. Think of it -- an original music video filmed simultaneously in orbit and on Earth. Wow. Here's the link to the performance: www.bit.ly/spaceperformance.
After watching this, think about the type of world you would you like to live in and the type of world you would would like to make.
Watch it. Enjoy. Think.
