A recent news item reminded me of the book "Alice in Wonderland," where everything was inverted. This time, it was President Barack Obama announcing that he expects to be best remembered for his handling of our economic recovery.
The only truth here is that his handling has kept the economy from recovering faster than it would have had he left it alone. Obama's bizarre claim must be based on a poll of the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area that has prospered greatly while the rest of our nation has suffered a slow recovery, and still has a serious unemployment problem if job market dropouts are included as unemployed. Wages have been static, and too many are employed only part time.
Economic uncertainties perpetuated by Obama's policies have been the main hindrance to businesses and would-be entrepreneurs. Three items have kept expansions and startups below their normal rates during our recovery. They are: extreme growth of governmental regulations, threat of higher taxes, and the unclear future effects of Obamacare.
Despite all this, Obama pretends to have fostered vibrant economic growth of a capitalistic system, which he obviously dislikes and distrusts. Claiming economic performance as his legacy is either delusional or an outright lie to be believed by his low-/no-information blocs. Although one might agree that his economic "handling" is the best thing he has done, as all others are even more abysmal.
