According to statistics reported in the newspaper, there is no question that increased enforcement of traffic laws on U.S. 278 has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of tickets issued. Whether this effort will result in fewer accidents remains to be seen. Numerous letters to the editor have documented the many reasons why driving on U.S. 278 is so dangerous. There have also been some good, common sense suggestions for improvements.
Now it will be interesting to learn if the "diverse team of state, county, and town officials" who will conduct the $20,000 traffic study will come up with any unique recommendations for improvements. Do you think it would be asking too much for this team to expedite its efforts so the public does not have to wait five months for its recommendations? Also, how about asking the team to include in its report a detailed account of how the $20,000 was spent?
