A recent writer asserted that the people of Gaza are showing "dignity through resistance" when they launch hundreds of rockets into Israel on a daily basis. Their elected leaders, Hamas, choose to do this from school yards, mosques, day care centers, etc., knowing that the hand wringers in the West will predictably blame Israel for responding. As columnist Charles Krauthammer said, "Israel uses rockets to protect its people while Hamas uses people to protect its rockets." Instead of using the substantial aid they receive to help their people, the Palestinians build tunnels and buy weapons.
I suggest that people read the Hamas Chronicles of 1998 that call for the complete obliteration of Israel and the murder of all Jews everywhere, and the imposition of Islam on everyone, including us. The Palestinians have been offered peace at every juncture. All Israel has ever asked is for them to renounce their pledge to destroy Israel and lay down their arms.
The Palestinians won't do this as they (wrongly) believe that the Jewish state is theirs. As the saying goes, "You have the watches, we have the time."
I believe that Israel, surrounded by people bent on the destruction of its state and culture, has shown incredible restraint.
And no, there is no dignity in stupid behavior.
