I recently parked next to a car near T.J. Maxx on the island. And in the car parked next to mine were five caged dogs, all barking, whimpering and certainly in distress. I waited about 10 minutes, reported it to the store manager, and went back to wait for the owner of the vehicle. I was joined by an English couple and a patron from Giuseppi's. We waited about 20 minutes, after I phoned 911 and talked to the police.
The woman who returned to the car said she thought it was OK to leave the animals in the car and had never heard of a law that prohibited it.
Please do not leave animals or children in unoccupied cars, especially in 95-degree weather.
