With regard to the parking problem in the Coligny area, why doesn't the town purchase the old Capin's Pharmacy/Beaufort County Sheriff's Office building, raze it and put up a three-story parking garage?
It's conveniently located, it isn't on Pope Avenue so it wouldn't be an eyesore, and it would certainly pay for itself with the revenue gained by charging drivers to park there.
The Coligny area merchants would perhaps gain more customers by virtue of people walking through the area on the way to the beach. And the visitors and shoppers in the area would have a better experience because they wouldn't avoid the area due to the inability to find parking.
It could be a win-win.
Never miss a local story.
