Bad planning, pet projects, and lax oversight by Beaufort County Council members Paul Sommerville (District 2), Jerry Stewart (District 6) and Stewart Rodman (District 11) have wasted millions of your tax dollars. I was there and documented it.
All three voted in favor of the FY14 fiscal budget that was based on incorrect budget data provided by Rodman -- despite warnings of problems. Despite not understanding it, all three voted for the budget, which raised taxes but cut library hours. Sommerville cast the deciding vote.
Stewart continues to support the county's ineffectual economic development organization (abandoned by others). Now the economic development groups want $59 million.
They protect a back door funding method for the two airports with poor financial planning.
Never miss a local story.
They had to be reminded to avoid sole source contracts.
These actions are the opposite of what we need to scientifically manage our scarce tax dollars. No business would tolerate the poor planning and oversight that these three have fostered. I doubt they run their own finances as haphazardly as they run yours.
Eight years is enough. Vote for change on June 10.
