June 5 will be a bittersweet day for Hilton Head Island students. Not only is it the first day of summer vacation, but it is also the last day for a dearly-loved teacher at Hilton Head Island Middle School who is retiring.
Most locals have at least heard of Kathy Cramer, a special education teacher who has been dedicated to students with disabilities for more than 33 years. Cramer has taught at the middle school since it opened.
She has been a driving force for starting, organizing and promoting Area 9 Special Olympics, Challenge Camp at the Hilton Head Recreation Center and Programs for Exceptional People, just to name a few.
She is an example of dedication to her profession, an inspiration to others who desire to make a difference and a ray of hope to all area children with special needs.
Things will never be the same at the middle school without Cramer, but it's certainly not the last we will hear from her. Her passion runs strong as she pursues even more ways to improve the lives of students with disabilities. We can't wait to see what she does next! We love you, Kathy!
