I was born into a family of working actors. My parents performed in summer stock theater and on Broadway. They and my siblings also performed in local theatre, on television, on radio and in film.
Never once did we rehearse in the theater itself. We always rehearsed in a rehearsal hall until shortly before opening night. This is how it is done so that the theater can remain vibrant with performances as often as possible to bring in money. When the theater is dark, no one is making any money.
I propose using the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina just for performances, not for the constant rehearsals that it is used for now. This way, other groups in the community could be making money when the Arts Center is rehearsing its productions in one of the many available empty rooms on the island that could be used as rehearsal halls. This would mean more money for the Arts Center and more money for the other performing arts groups on the island.
