We have a new definition for unmitigated gall. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia was quoted in USA Today suggesting that members of Congress aren't paid enough. Their salary is only about $174,000 annually.
Whatever happened to our citizen politicians, people who were proud to leave their farms, stores, medical practices and other businesses to help the United States, not themselves? Today, about three-quarters of our elected officials are lawyers who write and pass laws so convoluted and voluminous that even they can't understand them.
If the congressional salary isn't enough, then why do they keep running? Could it be the unmentioned perks or retirement benefits?
Maybe their salaries should be commensurate with their performance. No, Congress runs this country, and they wouldn't let that happen. Strange isn't it? Congress runs this country.
We the people better get it together before the next election. I don't care what party or side of the aisle you lean toward. It's time to vote for moderates who will work together. We can no longer maintain a form of government that relies on pork barrel politics, a tax-and-spend mentality and voter ignorance to buy votes that feed the egos and coffers of our elitist officials.
We must elect people who will vote for a balanced budget, stop foreign aid to countries that hold large portions of our national debt, are willing to be impacted by the laws they pass and will work to eliminate the cause of poverty, not throw money at the symptoms.
