Tests serve useful purpose for students

From an old school man, here's another perspective on our schools' alleged testing overload that was recently featured in the newspaper. You calculated that from kindergarten through 12th grade a student will spend at least 150 hours on standardized tests. That's not even 12 hours a year, and seems hardly excessive -- especially since the test itself can be a powerful teaching tool. Likewise, students' prep time, and learning to deal with the stress involved, are important and can be beneficial.
