The recent articles on the hours invested by students in taking tests throughout their school years caught my attention. My response is probably not new but worth repeating. How many hours do our children spend on video games, Facebook, cell phone activity, etc. in comparison with the 150 hours of testing throughout their school years (and beyond)?
As a former teacher and library media specialist, it amazes me how tough it is for our teachers to even teach the basics without almost having to put on a show to keep the students engaged. God bless all the teachers, administrators and support staff who work to make our children lifelong learners. It may require a few extra test hours to assess competency, but all students win by consistent attention to teaching and its a effectiveness throughout their educational years.
