In a recent letter to the editor, vehement remarks were made about Gov. Nikki Haley, claiming that she was a hypocrite and her opposition to the Affordable Care Act was racially motivated.
The author tried to support the claim by juxtaposing Haley's opposition to expansion of the Affordable Care Act and then requesting government aid after a major storm.
These two situations are completely different and perfectly represent what our governor believes government is in place to do.
An example of a hypocrite would be someone who declares we should impeach our governor, but at the same time thinks our president is our president whether we like him or not.
As for the baseless assertion that the opposition to the Affordable Care Act is racially motivated, I am sure Dr. Ben Carson and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, both African-Americans, would beg to differ.
It saddens me when race is used as a weapon in the political realm. If you choose to argue over issues, do not bring race, sex, or religion into the debate because they have nothing to do with the matter at hand.
