We own an office on Dillon Road that will be purchased by Beaufort County to make way for the Hilton Head Island Airport renovation. We were contacted in November, followed up with several times, and are awaiting the results of the appraisal of our property by the county.
We were assured that we would receive compensation for moving costs, extra printing and the cost of changing business information and signage as well as assistance in locating a new office space. Timing is, of course, important. It is never simple to change a business location.
We will have at least three months upon receipt of the appraisal and purchase offers from the county to accept or try to negotiate. We probably should have expected these actions based on our being able to wave at the plane passengers as they landed and took off behind our buildings. As soon as the appraisal is in, we all can hopefully get on with business as usual. We cannot fault the county to date on communication -- yet.
The main problem is the fact that, due to timing, we must wait at least seven to eight months to commit to a new location, and most sellers or lessors cannot wait for our decision. Timing is indeed of the essence.
Never miss a local story.
Hopefully, the result will be amenable to all. We are fortunate to have our airport -- a promotional tool we cannot afford to lose.
