Contrary to what most liberals believe, our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian values. It is a fact that almost all of the settlers in our 13 colonies came from Europe, which embraced Judeo-Christian faiths.
It is also true that our Founding Fathers did not put a particular religion into our nation's two most important documents -- the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
But they acknowledged the importance of God in our lives when they wrote in the declaration "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights."
Those same fathers continued this belief when they wrote that securing "the blessings of liberty" was a reason for establishing the U.S. Constitution in the document's preamble.
To me, these are the very reasons why this nation chose the essence of God's will -- the Golden Rule -- as the basis of right and wrong in the laws of our land. It explains why "In God We Trust" was put on our currency and why God is mentioned in all of our patriotic songs. Truly, this nation and God have always been closely intertwined as was noted by both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Along come the liberals who, as highly intellectual individuals, believe God should be kept privately in the home.
My hope is that most moderate liberals and independents will choose to bring God back into making their decisions regarding critical national issues.
