It is with interest and frustration that I have witnessed the widening of U.S. 278 from Simmonsville Road to S.C. 170.
• As we approach the second anniversary of this project's construction, there are several glaring observations:
• The length of the project is beyond the acceptable norm, sequencing of construction is chaotic and unorganized, safety and convenience of travel substandard.
• The design of this project neglects the safety of the residents of this community. There are now schools and churches that do not have entrance and exit turn lanes into their facilities, making daily access to these facilities extremely hazardous.
I would guess the state Department of Transportation was the driving force in the design of this project, but why were safety provisions that existed before this construction removed without being replaced? Does it become the financial burden of private organizations to correct government oversights?
