I have seen two recent articles about the trash transfer station proposed for the county-owned site at 97 Chechessee Road.
Stating the site is near the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority office seems to project an acceptable image. The office is on the other side of S.C. 170 from the site and away from the marshlands. Mannigault's Neck is a 96.8-acre tract purchased by Beaufort County and protected by the Beaufort Count Rural and Critical Lands Program. The land purchased by Beaufort County at 97 Chechessee Road is 43 acres and shares a common boundary with the protected Mannigault's Neck.
The question should be: How in the world can Beaufort Council pledge to conserve and protect one tract and propose a trash transfer station next door to it?
