Stupidity runs deep in the Republican Party. Recently, Republicans have demonstrated that stupidity by voting more than 40 times to repeal Obamacare.
Unsuccessful in those endeavors, they now have shut down the federal government and threaten to cause the U.S. to default on its debt obligations. Their hatred of our black president and his signature legislation runs deep.
Rep. Mark Sanford calls people and has town hall meetings, but when push comes to shove, he votes the party line as directed. He is proud that the House has voted so many times to repeal Obamacare, though he and his colleagues never offered a reasonable alternative or meaningful change to the existing law.
But stupidity is not confined to the federal level; our state representatives also lack concern for the neediest individuals in the community. They refused to expand Medicaid even though the federal government would pay for the first three years. State Sen. Tom Davis doesn't support the expansion because he is concerned that the federal government will not honor its commitment 10 years from now. How many people will have died because of the lack of basic health care during those 10 years?
Republicans know once Obamacare is fully implemented, as with Social Security and Medicare, it will be endeared in the hearts of all Americans. Their basic concern is not about cost or other stated nonsense, it is that yet another law that they didn't support will be beloved by the American people.
