If I understand correctly, Catholic bishops recently asked priests to give a homily about keeping a sanctuary for illegal immigrants in our country.
The U.S. is such a great country because we have welcomed immigration -- legal immigration.
My family has sponsored four immigrants to come to our country legally. I do not know of one cardinal, bishop, priest or nun who has sponsored any. Mexico is the 14th richest country in the world but refuses to care for its poor. It prefers to transfer its obligation to over-taxed, over-worked middle class Americans, just as the Democrats and Catholic bishops do.
If people don't hesitate to break our immigration laws, why expect them to obey any of our other laws. I believe they do not obey them. The U.S. spends $50 billion a year on border security. The bishops do not pay one penny, but maybe they should.
Since the outbreak of the war in Syria, more than 1 million people have become refugees. There are 68,000 refugees from Iraq and Afghanistan. Despite the refugees' dire needs, theVatican, with more than 600 acres, has not offered any medical, financial or housing help. There is a reason for the wall around the Vatican. Yet the bishops do not like the idea of putting up a wall along our border. I think they should practice what they preach.
