Hospice Care of the Lowcountry would like to express its sincerest thank you to Hargray's Caring Coins Foundation. Caring Coins has been a generous supporter of our organization, and we are grateful for the recent grant funding our "We Honor Veterans" program.
With this grant, we further our mission by learning how to better serve veterans through the challenges they may be facing from illness, isolation or traumatic life experience. "We Honor Veterans" focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. By recognizing their unique needs, we can learn how to accompany and guide America's veterans and their families through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.
Retired military make up 25 percent of all deaths in the United States. Beaufort and Jasper counties alone are home to 20,000 veterans. Caring Coins' funding will support program activities, including staff education, volunteer training for the veteran-to-veteran volunteer program, and support groups for veterans and veterans' spouses. The grant also will provide ceremony supplies, including certificates honoring their service, pins, a flag display case or a blanket with the insignia of the veterans' branch of service. Caring Coins will also support the "We Honor Veterans Caregiver Relief Fund," which provides financial assistance to lessen the physical, emotional and financial burdens associated with care giving. Just as our veterans require support, so do their caregivers.
Again, thank you Caring Coins.
Never miss a local story.
