After 10 heart-warming years, we are looking for another place for our community Christmas dinner.
Our 400 volunteers are experienced in preparing and cooking the food. They manage the buffet, serve drinks, sing carols, attend parking and leave everything cleaned up. These jobs, all done without accidents, are their annual tradition. They enjoy celebrating the Christ child's birthday with about 1,200 residents and visitors to the Bluffton-Hilton Head communities, many of whom are away from their loved ones on Dec. 25.
Every year, the commercialization of Christmas begins earlier and becomes more intense. In contrast, our dinner is organized for Christ's birthday and supported with the donations of local residents. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., diners are delighted by the welcoming atmosphere as they share tables and the real meaning of Christmas.
In turn, their generous spirit produces benefits beyond the holidays. Many thankful diners reciprocate with contributions to Meals on Wheels and Second Helpings, which also picks up any extra food.
Never miss a local story.
This community tradition involves no sponsor, no profit. Of course, the venue that offers us space gets publicity. It needs to seat at least 150, with a reception area, space for two buffet lines, two drink stations, commercial kitchen for experienced volunteers, ample parking and wheelchair accessibility. Please help us to celebrate this tradition of our community and our faith.
