While everyone seems concerned about all the lying and prying, a few other stories caught my eye.
I should mention I am a recovered environmentalist. I lost my faith in 1975, when the high priests changed the sermons from "the evil capitalists and automobiles are causing global cooling" to "the evil capitalists and automobiles are causing global warming."
The first story is from Hawaii, that hot bed of human activity. The carbon dioxide levels have, temporarily, reached the unheard of level of 400 parts per million, for the first time since -- at least -- 1975. That means carbon dioxide now accounts for a whopping 0.04 percent of the air. Global warming is now on overdrive. Temperatures will increase by 1 degrees Celsius in the next 10, 50 or 100 years and sea levels will rise between 18 inches and 20 feet, depending on who is preaching.
So how has Mother Nature reacted to this travesty? Another story indicated that the first four months of 2013, global temperatures were 3 degrees Celsius (5-1/2 degrees Fahrenheit) below normal. How can this be?
Never miss a local story.
All I know is that my plants appreciate the ability to breathe easier as they are growing like gangbusters this year.
We also have had three stories indicating we will have a busier than normal hurricane season. Again. The reasons for each? Global warming; cooling of the oceans; warming of the oceans. Let's hope they are wrong. Again.
