All of Hilton Head Island should congratulate The Deep Well Project for all its work in the past 40 years.
I just found out it started by actually digging deep wells so drinking water would not be contaminated. At the same time, I was on the island of Puerto Rico building wells and latrines as I studied for my master's degree in health, so the Puerto Ricans would have clean water.
Now, after being bedridden five years with strokes, I'm better, but I have to be on the receiving end of the good deeds. I am barely surviving on a little Social Security and $16 a week in food stamps, wondering each day how I'll make it.
Deep Well employees and volunteers have come to my rescue with food and by fixing things in my little place. I didn't even have running water in the kitchen, and there was a hole in my floor.
Deep Well staff and volunteers rode in on white horses. Thanks friends, and thanks to all who have donated food, money and time to Deep Well.
