Does this newspaper stand by its reporting?
Did Barbara Nielsen, former state superintendent and Mark Sanford's political supporter and advisor on K-12 education policy, really say "... unfortunate personal issue that is between he and Jenny" when describing Sanford's current familial conflict?
Had my former country grade school teachers been able to hear this abuse of the English language, they would now be spinning in their graves.
Unlike Nielsen, they were just plain old "normal school" or teachers' college graduates, not claiming Nielsen's doctorate or even master's degrees. But they were intelligent, educated and dedicated, and they educated their students, more than 90 percent of whom were not destined to go to college.
Never miss a local story.
With education leadership and expertise like this, is there any wonder why South Carolina students do so poorly in testing on English competence, and is Nielsen's advisory role just another commentary on Sanford's judgment?
