Ninety-two years of instinct and intuition tell me that former Gov. Mark Sanford planned a quick turn-around trip to Argentina to handle a profoundly emotional life crisis. It was not to be.
He did not anticipate staying three days in Argentina, or "five days on the Appalachian Trail." He was quoted as saying it was a "teary" time.
When one considers the activities of five presidents and many political figures of the post-World War II era, Sanford's indiscretion seems relatively minor. At least, it took eight long years for it to develop. Maybe the media and the public have dealt a bit harshly with him.
To be represented in Congress by a man of Sanford's stature, experience and Washington know-how could be very advantageous for our district. No, I have never met him, nor seen him. This letter is my own idea after much thought.
Never miss a local story.
