As I was thinking about the exclusion of some of the biggest stars of the last decade or two, namely Barry Bonds, Sam Sosa and Roger Clemens, from baseball's Hall of Fame, this occurred to me: What if previous inductees of past eras used something to enhance their performance?
The ban against performance enhancers is a present-day creation.
Maybe if everyone used performance enhancer, it would make for a level playing field. Of course, I'm being facetious because of the side effects these drugs can produce later in life. If some of these users had been educated about side effects, they would not have taken them.
My point is that in the previous eras, they didn't know about the use of performance enhancers, and if they had, there would be far fewer than the 300 names in Cooperstown.
