Beaufort County was handed a golden opportunity to reshuffle our dysfunctional school board and put newly elected board members in leadership roles. Somehow, the train was derailed by the minority of only four returning board members.
How could five of the seven new board members, with a huge electorate mandate for change, immediately return board leadership to the very people they were elected to oppose?
The seven newly elected board members need to build consensus among themselves and step up to the responsibilities they were elected to perform.
The "go along to get along" mentality is unacceptable.

The returning four board members, including one who has been on the board for more than 20 years, will continue to be part of the problem rather than a solution and must be opposed until they can be replaced.
Postponing necessary changes to the "policy governance model" until a new superintendent is named and involved, while leaving McCracken Middle School principal Phillip Shaw in limbo, is irresponsible and does a disservice to the entire community. Shame on them.
