I read with great interest a recent letter concerning improvements in the use of electronic technology and job loss. Unfortunately, the use of technology has not -- and rarely does -- keep up with the development of technology. Often the adaptation of technology results in the release of employees for other productive work, and seldom have the employees prepared themselves for change.
Having worked for many years as an industrial engineer or systems analyst, I have been fortunate in that I was and am talented in these fields of endeavor.
No longer do we use carrier pigeons and horses to carry messages. Our post office has not received money from the federal government since 1971 although it still provides many services.
