First of all, I want to state that I am writing this letter not as a Democrat or Republican, but as a resident of Beaufort County, South Carolina.
The national media would lead us to believe that our national election is the most important issue affecting us now. They have also told us that only about 10 states really make a difference in the presidential election at this time and South Carolina is not one of these.
Please do not stay home on Tuesday because you think that your preferred candidate for president has been declared as a winner or loser in South Carolina.
The most important things that affect our quality of life on a day-to-day basis are decided by our local county and city council members.
Even if you do not have children or grandchildren in our schools, your future depends on the education being received daily by our future work force. Our school board members write the policies, write the budgets and hire the superintendent. These decisions impact each student.
This is a crucial turning point for the future of Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island.
