I agree with the March 3 letter regarding the Obamacare mandate on the Catholic Church and its attack on religious freedom and beliefs. I also attended Mass at St. Gregory the Great the weekend in question and listened as the priest read the bishop's letter. I stood with the congregation as we gave the priest a standing ovation. I wondered why it took the Catholic Church so long to respond to this attack.
It is hard to believe that a member of the congregation would be offended by this response. The mandate goes against the church's teachings and beliefs.
As a student and follower of history, I know that history repeats itself -- the good, the bad and the evil. Anyone not understanding how Americans could have their freedoms and liberties taken away should re-read the history books (older books, not the newer revised and changed editions).
A good example would be European history from the 1920s to the end of World War II. This would provide a clear understanding of how individuals and governments can captivate and mesmerize an entire population into the blind following of certain ideologies.
If you understand history, you will be better equipped to face any challenge that would take away our American freedoms and liberties.
