Beaufort County's Tom Davis is working hard in the state Senate.
Over the past few weeks, there was a battle over the process of congressional redistricting. While this process usually involves a lot of work, this year was even more challenging with the state gaining a seventh district.
Davis was one of the most active voices in that process. While his effort to steer that district to the Beaufort region was not successful, his plan made more headway than any other plan, except for the one that passed last week.
On many fronts, Beaufort County has often been overlooked in Columbia when important decisions are made. This was a key concern of Davis, and he made this point very clear during the redistricting debate. It will certainly be a point on the minds of legislators in the future because of the tenacious stand he made to help gain greater congressional representation for Beaufort County.
While I live in the Charleston area, I have been involved personally and professionally in Beaufort County for quite a few years. As such, I have a lot of friends there and am concerned that this part of the state not be ignored in Columbia. With legislators such as your House members and Davis, Beaufort County has strong active representation in Columbia.
