I am writing regarding a drive-by shooting at the Charles Lind Brown Activity Center basketball court on July 19.
My granddaughter goes to the PALS summer program there. They were going out to the pool when this happened but were told they couldn't go just yet because they were having a drill.
The truth was there was shooting going on. This is a very serious thing to happen this close to a summer camp.
The parents weren't even notified. They had to find out when they got home and went on the computer to look at The Beaufort Gazette. This camp is not free, so good money is being paid for our children to be safe and taken care of. I don't feel that this is being done.
The PALS administrator told my daughter that the kids were safe. How can he be sure when they let anyone hang out at the basketball courts and pool while the summer camp is going on?
This is not the only incident. A couple of weeks ago, there was a fight at the pool with teenage boys while the camp children were there.
If they are going to have a summer camp, they should not allow the public to attend until the camp is out. When you have teenagers hanging out at the basketball court and pool, they are asking for problems.
I hope that they will look at this as a serious matter and revise their public times and summer camp times.
