Bluffton is going green, but not in a good way.
If you have not noticed, Bluffton's roadway grass is growing taller and taller. Edging is not performed, trash is building up. Why? Beaufort County has canceled the landscaping contract along Bluffton Parkway, Buckwalter Parkway and other road systems. In a phone call to Public Works, officials stated they are taking landscaping in-house.
As you can see, that means every two to three weeks at best, and we are left to look at tall grass, trash, dead trees and other very poor looking conditions. Businesses already hit with slow sales and tough times appear to be in poor condition and not maintained. A second problem is safety; all who bike and run on these roadways and pathways have to deal with unsafe conditions. Grass grows across the paths, dirt and trash fills the curb edges and tall grass blocks views.
If you have noticed these conditions, please call Beaufort County and register a complaint. We deserve better, safer and more acceptable looking conditions in our area. We want our area to look like a place to be proud of. We also want the many tourists who come to the Lowcountry to go back home and say what a beautiful place the Lowcountry is to visit.
Never miss a local story.
