As a proud member of American Legion Post 205 and an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, I want to express my feelings concerning the "military action" in the Middle East.
To be more specific, this misguided misadventure started with support for Iraq and Afghanistan, and after nearly a decade, we find ourselves drowning in the cesspool I call the Middle East tribal conflict. Can Libya be far behind?
After more than nine years of involvement, thanks to the politically selfish motives of two administrations, we are witnessing the slaughter and maiming of thousands of our young American military, with no end in sight.
To give it a realistic touch, read the newspapers and watch your favorite TV news programs and count the bodies coming home for the last time.
Never miss a local story.
Now that you have gotten the gruesome picture, it's about time to do something about ending our commitment to this shameful blot on our glorious military history. Starting right now, we should bring home all of our troops and ignore all of the politicians wailing and moaning about the dire consequences that will develop when "Johnny comes marching home" for good." Too bad is my response to Congress.
Members of the American Legion and all concerned Americans, I encourage you -- better yet, I expect you -- to call your representatives in Congress, including the White House, and give them hell. Bring home all of those brave kids right now.
