Here's a possible solution to the national debt problem: The federal government shall levy a tax of 1 percent on every share of stock traded in the United States, the proceeds of which will go only for paying off the national debt.
So even for the poor guy, that is only one penny on the dollar of stock traded. Not even noticeable.
With more than eight billion shares trading daily, the income is estimated at the low end to be $2 trillion a year. To make sure Congress does not use it for anything other than the national debt, add a constitutional amendment stating that these monies can only be used to pay down the national debt, and when there is no debt, the tax will cease.
