We've long had our doubts about the competence of the management of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. We've endured too many interminable monologues delivered by ladies with whiny voices before getting to the music for which we paid good money.
But the news of the orchestra's firing of Mary Woodmansee Green is astonishing. Green has singlehandedly built an orchestra that compares well with any orchestra anywhere in the world outside of the largest metropolitan centers, and we've heard orchestras from Tokyo to Podunk.
Firing her is the stupidest thing these people have ever done.
