Get your winter coats ready — it’s gonna get cold in the Lowcountry later this week.
In fact, it’s going to be chilly across the entire United States, according to the National Weather Service, as a blast of arctic air sweeps through the country later this week.
According to AccuWeather, cold temperatures will hit the Midwest from Tuesday to Wednesday, with highs in Kansas City and St. Louis in the 20s.
That arctic air mass should hit the Lowcountry Thursday and linger into Saturday, with low temperatures in the 30s. They could possibly hit the 20s in some areas Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures aren’t expected to reach 50 degrees this weekend in South Carolina.
Florida won’t be much warmer, with possible freezing across the northern Florida Peninsula later this week.
The cold won’t last long, though. Temperatures in Beaufort County are expected to climb into the 60s starting on Sunday.
Before the cold temperatures settle in, a few inches of rain are expected to soak South Carolina over the next couple days with a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, according to the weather service.
